October 4th at 4:30pm at the Orcas Island Winery
Join local Farmers and island film makers in celebrating Orcas Island Food Heroes for a dinner catered by The Kitchen, and preview of the fun new San Juan Islands Ag short film selected for inclusion in the Friday Harbor Film Festival.  This is a free event, with fundraising donations to benefit local farms through the Ag Guild Farm Fund. Saturdays through November 23rd from 10:00am-2:00pm at the OISD Cafeteria
The Indoor fall market begins October 5 and runs through November 23, every Saturday. This year the market will be located at the Orcas School Cafeteria to provide a larger space for all the amazing vendors you know and love!

Magic The Gathering: Commander
October 6th from 3:00-7:00pm at the Orcas Island Library
The event is free, with pizza and drinks!  The format will be casual Commander play. All ages and experience levels are welcome, there will even be decks to borrow (if you need one) and lessons provided for people wanting to learn the game. Little Summit Trail – Difficult

2.2 miles. 430 feet elevation gain/loss Little Summit rests above Mountain Lake on the eastern side of Mount Constitution. The Little Summit Trail starts at one of the best picnic vistas in Moran State Park, with several tables for visitors to relax on as they enjoy views of Mount Pickett and the south sound. The trail continues along the sloping ridge of the mountain towards the summit through variable terrain populated by switchbacks, ant hills, and ancient Lodgepole Pine growth. Several vantage points along the trail offer breathtaking views and photo opportunities of eastern Orcas Island, including Mountain Lake and Twin Lakes, and the waters of the Salish Sea. Take the mid-way cutoff towards the Cold Springs Trail for further hiking or continue the ascent towards the summit and see the best view in the San Juan Islands.

On a cold and rainy night, there are few places better to be on Orcas Island than in the dining room at Mijitas. You would be among good company as it is the go-to for many (if not most) locals. This is likely due to its prime positioning at the intersection of price, quality, service, and atmosphere. The experience of Mijits begins before you even open the door. Pass through their courtyard, and into the dining room. It is one of the most thematic restaurants on Orcas, thematic restaurants being a particular peeve of mine, due to their general reliance on cultural tropes and culinary cliches. Mijitas, however, embraces its south of the border heritage tastefully and embellishes its outdoor seating area and indoor dining room with flares of Mexicana that subtly remind one where they are.
